It is hard to believe that Google Adwords has been around for 18 years. As a solution to deliver relevant adverts to internet searchers for all manner of products and services, Adwords have been used by businesses around the world to promote their business, increase sales and deliver information to customers when they want it!

Now, Google Adwords is having a re-brand...and now Google's online advertising will be known as Google Ads.

Since launch 18 years ago, the way that people use the internet has changed dramatically. We use mobiles more than ever, and we quickly switch from using traditional search queries to watching videos, playing games, browsing content and more.

This is great for consumers, but has made managing your online advertising more complex than ever. The re-brand and launch of more streamlined products is Google's attempts to make advertising easier for businesses.

From the Google blog:

"We are introducing simpler brands and solutions for our advertising products: Google Ads, Google Marketing Platform, and Google Ad Manager. These new brands will help advertisers and publishers of all sizes choose the right solutions for their businesses, making it even easier for them to deliver valuable, trustworthy ads and the right experiences for consumers across devices and channels."

What does the rebrand mean?

Google Ads will represent the full range of advertising opportunities across the Google offering. This will include through Search, YouTube videos, Google Maps, Play Store and on websites that feature on-page advertising.

There will be a specific campaign type available for small businesses, to make setting up and running Google Ads easier than ever, making use of Google's machine learning without the need for any 'heavy lifting' as they put it on their blog.

Google will be making more announcements on the changes to Google's advertising and marketing offerings at Google Marketing Live on the 10th July.
