A website to showcase 3e projects
PCM has worked with 3e Consulting Engineers for over 10 years, providing IT support including emails, servers, hardware and data backup, and was responsible for the design and build of 3e's original website some years ago. When the company was looking to upgrade the website to showcase their extensive portfolio of projects, they called in PCM to manage the design and build.
"Technology had changed over the years, and whilst our original website was still functional and representative, it was time for a rethink to present a more up-to-date image to the market sectors we serve," confirmed Michele Barber for 3e.
At an initial planning meeting, the teams from PCM and 3e got together to discuss key elements for the new website design. With hundreds of projects already featured on the site, transferring this wealth of material swiftly and accurately to the new platform was an important consideration. It was also vital to incorporate a content management system where new projects could be uploaded quickly and efficiently by 3e personnel.
Matching the requirements
PCM began by presenting initial visual ideas for the site, developed to reflect the professional nature of the work carried out by 3e. Subject to some initial tweaks, the ideas were approved and the team began work on the site build.
This transfer of project data turned out to be the most challenging part of the task. To ensure no information was lost or corrupted, PCM developed a system to import this mass of information from the original website, covering projects and applications dating back many years. Migrating this information required careful consideration of issues such as matching page URLs to maintain page rankings.
Smooth transition
"PCM achieved a very smooth transition from the original website to the new one, successfully transferring data and incorporating all the elements we discussed in our original scoping meeting," confirmed Michele. "As a result, our business now has an attractive and functional digital platform showcasing our work across the UK."
PCM also included a bespoke CMS to enable 3e personnel to upload new project information, enhancing content easily and quickly.
In addition, to help categorise the large number of projects listed on the site, PCM included a new facility which means visitors can now search and filter according to project type, affording easy access for 3e clients and potential clients wanting to search on past applications.
PCM are very good at what they do. We have worked together for many years and developed an excellent working relationship which supports our day to day IT activities. The most recent major project to develop a new website was smooth and intuitive. The PCM team listened to what we wanted and contributed their own ideas, helped by their knowledge of our business. We now have an up-to-date website built around the latest technology, incorporating all our historical project data, together with a CMS facility which enables us to input new projects quickly and efficiently"
